This residence is the owner’s dream cottage, located on their private lake. A local, rustic, stone bungalow and the owner’s love of art, with Middle Eastern, subcontinent, and oriental collections, inspire the design of the house. The collections included doors, windows, architectural components, artwork, and many other items all intended to be incorporated into the house. Most important was quality of workmanship with many local artisans joining forces to assist in the design and construction.
The design for the house evolved several times with spatial explorations, additional collections, and new furniture. The resultant structure is an eclectic dichotomy of the formal versus informal, rustic versus refined, accomplished through juxtapositions of tiles and stone, dressed and distressed woods, and techniques of faux painting. Layers of patterns, design concepts, design styles, and artwork provide a never-ending world of discovery of new meanings and surprises.
The three level home consists of two living spaces, two kitchens, two bedroom suites, theater, game room, library, conservatory, an art studio, two dens, a workout room, and a contemplative tower room. The residence employs smart-building technology with multizone forced air furnaces, in-floor radiant heating, and 100% back-up power generation. There are two patios, multi-level porches, a tiki hut/barbeque shelter, porte cochere, swimming pool, and spa all nestled within the surrounding fantasy garden/woodlands. A dock extends one hundred feet into the lake to a “lily pad,” which is designed to hold a fabric structure for entertaining.
