TRW VSSI SEAT BELT TECHNOLOGY AND DEVELOPMENT
CENTER

Square Feet: 133,000
The challenge was to combine the four major components:
Administrative Offices, Engineering Offices, Research
and Development and Quality Assurance while communicating
to current and potential clients an image of innovation,
technical achievement, human awareness and corporate
stability. While these components require adjacency
for constant interaction, a sense of separation
was established horizontally by floor and vertically
by a central two-story atrium.
The occupant restraint device test sled hurls
dummies in simulated crash tests at speeds up
to 35 miles an hour toward their inevitable termination
as visitors and staff alike are allowed the visible
participation through the glass lobby atrium partitions.
