Before this church was designed, the Parish Building
Committee presented the Architect with a very
complete Program Statement from which developed
a list of Design Precepts. The most challenging
of these precepts was that the design of the church
provide “visual images of St. Paul of Tarsus.”
Since St. Paul’s worldly life reflected
a pilgrimage, or movement, from beginning to end
(a searching), the symbol of “movement”
was chosen as generator of the building form.
The church’s flowing curves in plan, elevation
and especially section are designed as a metaphor
for the searching and movement through the life
of St. Paul and all of the current parishioners.
