The challenge was to design and build a test facility
in 12 months, so that the Nissan Motor Corporation
could test their own cars for compliance with Environmental
Protection Agency standards.
The facility consisted of an 11,856 square foot
low bay office area and a 28,836 square foot high
bay testing lab. The lower chords of the steel
frame trusses were all set at the same elevation
for unobstructed clearance for all of the sophisticated
equipment.
The owner insisted that the building reflect
and provide an atmosphere for creating products
which represent the culmination of sophisticated
culture and advanced technology.
The resulting architectural form became an abstract
composition of contrasting shapes and sculptural
forms – married to its site.
